You know yesterday, when I said, "Whatever the reasons for these myths spreading without the aid of the tabloids, it'll be as interesting as it is depressing to watch this new myth develop over the summer with their aid"?
Well, now we can let the depressing but interesting carnival begin!
Cue the capering clowns dressed as Schopenhaur to come tumbling through the tickertape and bunting down the street as the caliope belts out Radiohead tunes..

Mail Online polls
A quick one before I go.

Hmm...I wonder what way the Mail wants us to vote
Anton at Enemies of Reason reveals how a Mail Online poll got ridiculousy skewed today by people on Twitter having a laugh (might set up a Twitter account while I'm away - we'll see). When I voted earlier today, it had shot up to 95% of people saying that yes, gypsies should be allowed to jump doctor queues. It was great. I checked in to see how much of a caning the poll was getting just now only to find - whoosh! It had gone. In your face, the Daily Mail.

The mother of all bad headlines

There's this scene, in 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells', where a big, scary looking geezer forces some poor sap's head in a drum full of water. 'Areyougunnapay?' he growls, as he pulls his gasping victim up out of the water, 'Areyougunnafahkinpay?' Before the guy even manages to get a full breath, let alone answer, his head is thrust back in as his arms flail uselessly about.

The Express want suggestions for polls
I just got an email from the Express asking for suggestions for 'Have Your Say' polls. Seriously! While 'The Express is a threat to Britain' was still the top story on this blog, I got this in my inbox:

After informing me that:
The email reveals a staggering 95% of online readers voted we should quite the EU! Of course, it doesn't reveal how many actual people voted, but there you go. Fancy that eh? 95% of Express online readers want to quit the EU. I wonder what they think of immigration. They never get asked their thoughts on that.
Anyhoo, the paper followed up with:
Excellent news. My suggestion below the fold.
Here's my suggestion for a poll:
You never know, eh?
Suggestions should be sent to web.help@express.co.uk, apparently.

After informing me that:
Gordon Brown broke his promise to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, so we decided to give you, our loyal readers, a chance to have your democratic say on www.express.co.uk

And now we want YOU to decide what our next major reader poll should be about.
Excellent news. My suggestion below the fold.
Here's my suggestion for a poll:
Thank you for your email requesting suggestions for future Daily Express polls.
How about:
"Should formerly respectable mid-market tabloids distort the truth and ask loaded questions of their readers in order to advance thinly-veiled racist agendas that bear a striking resemblance to BNP talking points?"
That'd be a good one.
Thanks,
