I said:
"(even the tabloids seem to have stopped trying to pretend the gypsies are taking over since Eastern Europeans started to return to their home country)."Today's Daily Express front page is on the left.
I should have known the tabloids wouldn't drop a centuries old fear of Eastern Europeans in such a short space of time. Don't believe it's centuries old? Read Dracula.
This is just a quick update to add - don't mind the paper covering the story, it's just the way it's covered. The word 'loot', with its connotations of rioting, the mention of non-existent open borders, the turning of the story into anti-immigration chaff. Surely there's a bit more to the story than that.

It's sad that in their rush to blame "gypsies", they miss the actual scandal of the story - young children being trafficked as pickpockets and prostitutes. In fact, they actively demonise the children, calling them "Fagins" and "menaces". The BBC, The Guardian and even The Mirror have managed to carry the story sensitively without attacking the children or veering into anti-Roma sentiment,* which just makes it all the worse that the Express just couldn't help themselves.
* I am actually tempted to nick Littlejohn's word "Romaphobic". It has a good ring to it.
It's conspiratorial overtones, linked to ethnicity, are unmistakably racist.
Ugh. Discrimination against the Roma people is spreading across Europe and no-one is doing anything about it - you've probably already seen 5CC but fwiw <a href="http://liberalconspiracy.org/2010/08/02/why-arent-we-talking-about-europes-roma-shame/>here</a> is an article spelling it all out.
html fail, sorry :(
Someone called Doug1 hs tried to leave a comment about how Gypsies deserve to be discriminated against more than they are and they have a low IQ - about the same as African Americans.
Silly arse.
