Remember - they go up pretty easy

I know - I'm supposed to be on a break, but:

Cue the music:

Hiatus

I always hate it when people use the word hiatus when break would do just as well. But I'll be taking a break from blogging for a while, since real life is a bit hairy at the moment and work is particularly difficult.

I want to take a bit of time to find my blogging self too. Things might be slightly different when I come back, with more nonsense not about the tabloids, but I haven't made my mind up yet.

See you in a while. Couple of weeks at least, but a month is more likely.

Foreign worker scare stories - a survival guide

"Well, there's no problem. If you have a gun, shoot 'em in the head. That's a sure way to kill 'em. If you don't, get yourself a club or a torch. Beat 'em or burn 'em. They go up pretty easy." - Sherrif McClelland, 'Night of the Living Dead'
There have been a few stories in the tabloids over the last year and a bit that try to scare us with lurid tales about how many jobs have been stolen by foreigners. The most blatantly similar to a shouting BNP goon is the recent 'THEY'VE STOLEN ALL OUR JOBS' in the Star, but there are others. I've been stretching out a zombie metaphor when I look at these stories recently, and I thought I'd stretch the thing even further by giving everyone Sherrif McClelland style advice about the things that kill off these kinds of story. It'll save me some typing time in the future if nothing else. So here goes.

Happy new year, short term migrant workers!

Hello people. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year and that. The first thing for days that I managed to keep in my system that wasn't dry crackers, dry toast and water was my Christmas dinner. So mine was ace!

The first post of 2009 will be about a new immigration scare story in the Mail, from everyone's favourite statistic massaging scaremonger - James Slack. Nice to see the paper's starting 2009 as it means to go on. The story seems to be from this Saturday's edition.
